Hello and Happy New Year! A bit of a slow start to 2021 over here! For the first time, in a long while, we traveled right after the holiday season and headed to the Colorado Rocky Mountains for five days of winter outdoor fun! I had to peel my kids off the mountain. It was just what we needed as a family to start off this year!
As we round the corner to a new year, I usually start the year on the blog with a list of intentions or resolutions. Not this year! If 2020 has taught me anything, then it most definitely has been to adjust to my surrounding circumstances. As a planner, list maker, routine lover and goal setter, this was tough! But I look back on 2020 as a blessing in so many ways. While of course I want things to get back to normal and this awful pandemic to end, I do not necessarily want to enter the rat race again. I want to keep spending as much time with my family as possible, continue to cultivate and surround myself with meaningful friendships while making decisions that prioritize my family (not decisions based on outside pressure!)
But I am not sure what is in store for the blog this year. I know recipes and meal planning are popular posts so I will continue with that for sure! And I hope more travel posts come to the blog this year too! I want to continue to provide additional entertaining tips and menus for social gatherings. And I always love to throw in a style post here and there! Other than that, I would love to hear from you!
In the meantime, let’s kick off the year with a series you all know (and hopefully still love!)
Five Favorites + Happy New Year
1. Elsie Green.
Anyone who has a love for beautiful French vintage home goods, head to the inspiring website of Elsie Green. I love the collection of furniture, art, kitchen and textile she curates. So many wonderful unique finds! I stalk her page regularly!
2. Truly, Madly, Guilty.
Currently on my nightstand, I am reading my first novel from Liane Moriarty novel after falling in love with the HBO series Pretty Little Lies. Oh, I hope this book is made into a series too! She really has a knack for creating rich characters and page turning storylines with just the right dose of humor!
3. Jubilee.
Speaking of books, I can’t pass up sharing the latest cookbook on my shelf that I received for Christmas! Jubilee is a collection of Southern recipes inspired by two centuries of African American Cooking. We are talking buttermilk biscuits, country-style potato salad, baked macaroni and cheese and pecan pie! On the menu this week is pork chops in a rich lemon caper sauce! Bring on the comfort food!
4. Lash Lift.
My eyelids droop and my eyelashes are no longer the full, long ones of my youth! I have no desire for extentions but learning about a lash lift sparked my interest! A process that involves giving your own lashes a perm so that they are maximized to the fullest! I got mine done locally last month at Spa Angeliza which included a lash tint. Well, you can see the results for yourself. I was so happy! They last about a month and I already have my next appointment booked!
5. Vintage Surfari Wagons.
Although the timing may not be right now, bookmark this very cool road trip concept. Either book your own or book a tour but either way you will find yourself cruising California in a revamped vintage camper! There are tons of itineraries to go with whether you are on your own or with a group. I am adding this to my travel bucket list! This would be so much fun to do with teenagers!
