Well it is officially spring! The weather may not be telling us that but the vernal equinox marks the first day as of yesterday. Any seasonal change that occurs means that it is time to change over your wardrobe as well. In the perfect world that means pretty pastels, lightweight sweaters and backless loafers. Yet if you live in the midwest, spring is a far cry from being perfect around here.
Blustery days, snow fall and cool temps are still a reality here when spring time hits. With that said, I have a hard time still layering on my winter attire and trudging around in boots and down coats, especially when returning after Spring Break. So then how do you dress for the unpredictable spring weather in Chicago? When all else fails, relying on transitional staples are always a good idea.
Transitioning Seasons With Stripes
Basics
I love this white basic from Urban Outfitters. It is perfect for this time of year! Short sleeve and looser in fit but still thermal, it is a great basic to layer with during the spring. Wear it underneath a button down or add an open cardigan to it, there are many color options offered. I also try to transition my denim wash this time of year too. I put away the darker washes and instead pull out lighter ones. Mine shown are out of stock right now but I linked a similar pair in a wash and style I love here.
Layering
I am a huge fan of the LA based clothing line, Rails. They know how to make a button down! They combine a structured top with a relaxed fit and are most well known for their collection of plaids. Plaid is an easy wardrobe go-to anytime of year but especially great to have on hand during the transitional seasons. Aim for ones with brighter or pastel colors for this time of year and pair it with a boyfriend cardigan in a shade of white. A similar style to the one I am wearing is linked here (choose last combo listed)
Accessorizing
I am going to step up my accessorizing game in future posts I promise. For now, you know what my favorite go-to’s are for completing this look. A signature gold necklace and a pair of street style sneakers. These loafers (white option) would be fun here too!
