I’m featuring a different type of post today! While it still has everything to do with style, the focus is not on fashion but rather the home! Also, I recently have been looking for ways to add some color and texture to my home and I want to share three ways that it can easily be done! While my list might seems obvious-pillows, rugs and throws-there are certain styles and trends here that I have fallen in love with lately. There are some great local options to shop these items but there are plenty of on-line resources to secure these latest home decor trends as well!
3 DECOR TRENDS FOR YOUR HOME
Peruvian Pillows
Anything Peruvian seems to be on major trend lately. There is hardly a retail home goods store out there that does not stock some type of Alpaca faux fur pillow or rug. The trend is even pouring over into furniture. This includes stools, benches, chairs and bean bags covering themselves up with faux fur. Also, Alpaca fur is a great neutral accent to bring into a room. Specifically, the texture and feel gives off cozy vibes for the home. So, as my home is decorated with a more neutral base, I prefer the Peruvian colorful fabrics as accent pieces. With so many unique combinations to choose from, Peruvian pillows immediately brighten up any space with their vibrant hues and rich textures.
Kilim Rug
Another textile taking over the decor world by storm are Kilim rugs. They are easy to fall in love with with their gorgeous patterns and colors but the benefits of having them may out way their beauty. Kilim rugs are flat and woven which means they do not pile. Pile meaning you don’t get those loose fibers that stick up or out (also an annoyance when it comes to wool sweaters!). This makes them super easy to keep clean (an occasional light vacuum) and if you have pets, their hair will not get intertwined in the rug fibers. Kilim rugs are also very affordable and come in tons of different sizes, making it easy to incorporate them into just about any space!
Alpaca Throw
Alpaca is luxurious and soft as cashmere but more sustainable and less expensive. Also, alpaca throws are a great addition to any room in the home. Options are endless with patterns and colors so they are a great fit anywhere-over a chair, bed, ottoman, or sofa. Also, I just discovered that alpaca wool is 100% hypo-allergenic while also being an all natural eco-friendly product. I have had the one featured here for several years and just bought this one while away in Colorado. Other favorites are here, here and here. You cannot go wrong with one of them!
Where I Shop These Decor Trends
Some of my favorite places to shop these items are locally in Chicago. The pillows featured above are by Shoshanna Lee. Quantities are limited but her selections are truly one of a kind and her pricing is perfect so feel free to contact Sandeee directly for more info at sandee@shoshannalee.com or at the Fredman Design Group .
For a more direct shopping experience, you do not want to miss Winifred Grace wear I found both of my area rugs featured in this post. The boutique owner is a dream to work with. Also, she will help to find and bring in rugs to fit your decor needs. For an unbelievable selection of richly textured pillows, throws, rugs and blankets across the board then one needs to go no further than Alapash New Home. Also, the store is an oasis of well curated and unique products.
For on-line resources one of the places I head to is the Citizenry. They partner with artisans from around the world while providing fair trade standards when working with them. Also, 10 percent of all the company’s proceeds are invested right back into the artisan communities. Here is a round-up of some of the beautiful products they offer:
You can find these items at some of the more well known stores like World Market and West Elm. World Market has a nice collection of faux fur pillows here while West Elm has some more “modern” looking Kilim rugs. I love this one here for a girl’s bedroom! Etsy is also a great on-line destination for these items as well! How gorgeous is this runner for next to a bed or in your kitchen in front of a sink? Etsy has countless options!
