When you look back on your first apartment, condo or house to now, how has your style evolved over the years? When we moved into our first home, I wanted French Country everything! I had a love for antiques, roosters and the French Provincial store Pierre Deux! That meant a lot of patterns and color! Over the years though, I have moved away from decorating with roosters (much to the happiness of my family) and come to love a home with a more neutral and monochromatic palette while still incorporating antiques and other items I have collected over the years. Also, I have come to love another side of French decor-the Art Deco era which means lots of silver and gold, geometric patterns and mirrored items.
I don’t expect my style to stop evolving here. I already have visions of moving into a contemporary home in California when we retire with nothing but clean lines, floor to ceiling windows and white everything (I think there is a direct correlation between accumulating clutter over the years and wanting your home to eventually becoming an oasis of simplicity!)
At Home with the Style Shack
Since my style continues to evolve, I try to invest in furniture that can be timeless, and instead reflect my personal style with home accents and accessories. Half the fun of decorating is being able to find and pick out items that inspire you and reflect your personal taste. I love to hunt for pieces at garage sales, vintage stores and local boutiques that offer an assortment of distinctive items. It is no wonder then that I have fallen in love with Style Shack, located at 1849 Second Street in downtown Highland Park, IL.
Owners Dawn Pye and Sherry Levin cater to an array of personal tastes making the store a welcome environment to all those who come in. From Jonathan Adler to ginger jars, the customer here is sure to find that last touch of an item or many items needed on a bookshelf, console or coffee table. If you are not sure what you are looking for or what you might need to complete the finishing touch, Style Shack offers an in-house complimentary design service, regardless of size and scale, to help assist you.
After speaking and working with Janet (who has spent many hours outside the store helping customers and clients at their homes!) I filled up my car trunk with bags and bags of items to try out at home. I love this! It really gave me the opportunity to play around with the items without fully committing to all I had my eye on (In truth though I loved it all!).
More Amazing Options
Beyond home accents and accessories, Style Shack is a lifestyle store offering a beautiful selection of tabletop, gift items and jewelry. Gift wrapping is complimentary complete with a navy box (yay!) and bow. Summer is in full swing here and I am loving all that there is to offer from vintage yellow glasses to Turkish blankets for picnicking.
If you live in the Chicagoland area, be sure to stop into the Style Shack. I am sure you will fall in love just as I have. For all others, I have linked their website here:
