Having a spa day at home is a wonderful way to take care of yourself, especially during these high stress times. A spa day at home can be as simple as applying a sheet mask or engaging in a muscle-soothing soak. There are real tension-relieving benefits in taking 20 minutes to devote yourself to a little self-care. And with Mother’s Day around the corner, there is no time like now to create a spa like atmosphere in your own home for a relaxing day or spa night!
How To Have a Relaxing Spa Day At Home
Set the Mood
You do not have to turn your space into a high end wellness retreat in order to achieve a soothing atmosphere. Closing the door, dimming the lights, lighting a candle, turning on some relaxing music and setting your phone to “do not disturb” are four simple ways to attain a spa like setting at home!
Choose Your Treatments
Hand masks, face masks, or eye masks; or a foot soak, body scrub or hair treatment are just some of the ways you can pamper yourself. And if you don’t have any products on hand right now, you can absolutely create a DIY spa day. I have highlighted several ways to utilize items in your home here, such as olive oil and coconut oil, to create your own effective DIY beauty treatments!
Draw A Bath
A steamy, hot water soak is often the star of a spa day at home. It instantly relaxes your muscles and mind—not to mention it helps open up your pores so all of your body and face treatments can really sink in. For a bath with aromatherapy benefits, fill your tub with warm to hot water and add a few drops of aromatic and skin-nourishing essential oils, baths salts and bubble bath!
Wrap Yourself Up In Something Soft and Cozy
There’s nothing quite like slipping into something soft and cozy during a treatment or post-bath. Bring spa-style luxury to you with a plush towel and robe to wrap yourself into! Lay out a cute set of pajamas or loungewear to change into as well. It can feel so much better to put something pretty on versus our beloved (but worn!) college tee and sweats!

Aromatherapy
When it comes to an at home spa day, setting the mood goes a long way. Lighting a candle helps set the tone to relax, unwind and take your time indulging in your at home spa treatments. Spraying an aromatic elixir in your space is another way to easily create a spa setting.
Bath Caddy
During a good bath soak, it is so nice to keep your indulgences within reach. Designed to hold reading material, treatments, sponges, candles and/or a beverage, a caddy is a wonderful accessory add-on for your bath time ritual.
Dry Brush
I did a step by step guide on dry brushing here. In short, by dry brushing, your body is getting an internal detox boost. Externally, the results are easier to see! As an efficient way to get rid of dead skin cells, a dry brush does a wonderful job of exfoliating. Not only does your skin look and feel better, but the process itself is both stimulating and invigorating!
At home skin care tip: Apply a few drops of essential oil to the dry brush. Starting at your feet, use long, upward strokes or small circular motions. Work your way up the body towards the heart. Whatever part of the body you are at, it is important to always start at the bottom of the limb and work your way upward.
Rose Quartz Roller
This handy little tool helps distribute your facial products deep into the skin. With proper use, your oil, serums and moisturizers are more deeply penetrated! I also crave items that feel tactically stimulating on the skin. That’s why I love dry brushing so much! You can actually feel your blood cells awakening. And this tool does the same! How does that benefit you? It provides an increase of blood circulation and oxygen to the skin. That, coupled with the cooling effect of the stone, and the skin instantly feels rejuvenated and the eyes, less puffy. To learn more on how to properly use this tool, head here.
Natural Sea Sponge
Another beneficial beauty tool for applying your skin products! Sea sponges are highly absorbent and create a luxurious lather. Natural sponges also gently exfoliate your skin (smoothly) removing those dead skin cells. Sea sponges contain a natural enzyme that blocks the growth of bacteria so they remain odor free. While a bit on the pricier side, they can last for years and are great for all types of skin!
Bath Salts, Oil and Bubbles
I add all three to my bath as each has its own benefit! Nothing puts me to sleep better than a hot bath and the reason why might be in the bath salts! These little crushed up minerals have a whole slew of benefits. They help remove toxins from the body, relax muscles and relieve inflammation. Bath oil is another added luxury! The ultimate skin nourisher, bath oils can also provide a wonderful aromatic experience allowing you to succumb to complete relaxation. And finally bubbles just make a bath more fun! Yes they help cleanse the skin but ultimately they help set the mood!
Mask Treatment
Apply a face mask, hand mask or an eye mask. Yes, you can add these on when you are in the bath but these treatments are wonderful to indulge in on their own! Simply dim your lights, light a candle, turn on some soothing music and find a quite place to lay down and close your eyes!
Hair Treatment
Sneak in a hair treatment. Apply a fortifying oil like Leonor Greyl Régénérescence Naturelle (smells heavenly!) to your scalp and massage it in. An invigorating scalp massage can give you stimulating worthy tingles while treating an often overlooked area of your body. Follow up with a hydrating hair mask. To aid in added moisture absorption, swaddle up your hair in a hair wrap during your treatment!
Lotion
The final touch! Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! While an all over body lotion moisturizer might be the obvious choice, take extra care to your feet, neck and face. The neck especially is often overlooked. I cannot live without this ant-aging neck cream that reduces the look of rough, crepey skin in this area. Also demand more out of your facial moisturizer! Yes, it should be hydrating but it also should improve your skin texture. Glycolic Acid (sounds harsh but it is not!) is an extremely effective ingredient in a moisturizer. I wake up in the morning with dewy radiant skin after applying the Maelove Night Renewer post bath spa night!
Happy Self-Care Sunday!
