While cleaning out my closet these past two weeks, I came to the realization that I have a closet full of clothes that rarely make an appearance on the blog. Although I love styling and putting together lots of looks for the blog, I seldom feature what I wear day to day. For the most part, my style posts focus on trends, key pieces and style tips. It also has been brought to my attention that through my reader survey at the beginning of this year, you voted unanimously that I bring more casual looks to the blog. I thought it therefore would be fun to bring a new series to Never Without Navy!
Every week, I plan to post on building an everyday outfit. These outfits will consist of three components: Basics, Layering and Accessorizing. These looks are meant to be attainable, comfortable and hopefully helpful!
Series Outfit Day
Basics:
First and foremost, every day-to-day outfit should start with great basics. My everyday basics are really an essential part of my wardrobe. They are the pieces I reach for time and time again. These are the first layers to put on and often set the stage for the rest of the outfit. I have basics that cover the spectrum in terms of price point but one thing that should always be consistent is that that feel good! Meaning they should tactically feel good on you and your body!
I wear tanks all year round and love them as my first layer. One of my favorite line of tanks is the brand HEATHER. I fell upon them when I was on vacation and in need of one. Their fabric is SO soft and feels so good to put on. Depending on how you like a layering tank to look, depends on what size to choose from this line. I like them looser and went with a size large. (I probably could have gone with a medium but they were out of stock in that size and I was not leaving without this tank!). This tank is linked in white and black here.
Denim Refreshment
Another basic must is a great pair of denim. I have been in major need of denim refreshment! Recently making a trip downtown to the Levi’s store, I made the time to try on a bunch of different styles, fits and washes. I forgot how awesome a pair of Levi’s are. Old school denim for sure. They definitely have more weight to them and not much stretch, but with time, they will wear in well. Plus, I know they will hold up great! I walked out with these 501 Selvedge Skinny Jeans in Pacfic Ocean. If you are between sizes in denim, I definitely suggest sizing up in Levi’s!
Layering:
Whenever I wear a tank, I really like the look of an open cardigan with it. I bought the one showing at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this past summer and I have worn it non-stop. This long cardigan also works well under my long duffle coat in the winter. Linked is a very similar version of this line here and a shorter version here.
Accessorizing:
Accessorizing adds personality to any (basic) look! I don’t love putting on a lot of accessories but what I do put on, I like for it to stand out. I have been wearing this vintage Gucci belt (thanks Mom!) a lot lately. It makes just about any outfit look good and especially a basic look! Other than that, I wear my signature gold “M” necklace (here) and of course a pair of sneakers!

Of course, with this look, neutrals can be mixed, different colors can be incorporated and any monochromatic scheme can work! Many of the items linked have plenty of other color options!
