Summer is on the mind especially with Chicago reaching the 80’s this week! Memorial Day is around the corner and soon it will be time to permanently break out the white tees, sandals and summer dresses! When it comes to summer nights, my uniform quickly becomes a white tee and denim with my favorite pair of sandals or wedges. This look can easily be dressed up by adding some great accessories but something else has caught my eye lately for dressing up one of my favorite summer looks. A kimono inspired jacket! I love the idea of wearing a kimono styled jacket to dress up these basics!

The kimono jacket is an instant upgrade to even the most basic look.
I mean it really doesn’t get more basic than a white tee and jeans! I’m wearing the midi length in this kimono (on major sale!) but for an even more dramatic look, try a floor length option like the one here . I like the idea of a shorter belted version kimono (like here) with denim shorts and a tee but anything longer and open with this look will denifitely give off festival style vibes.
Most kimonos have a floral pattern so they add a nice touch of romance and femininity to what you are wearing while the silk or faux silk material gives that added touch of dressiness to your outfit. One of the things I love most about the kimono is that they are the answer to what to wear over an off-the shoulder top. The open, flowy arms make it the perfect pairing to an otherwise complicated top to find something to wear over.
Kimonos don’t necessarily need to be left to layering.
This structured kimono top here would look stunning with a pair of palazzo pants or skinny black or white denim. Wearing a kimono inspired dress here gives off the perfect patio garden party look! To give your kimono a second life, it can also easily transition nicely to a robe or beach/pool cover-up.
